Xiaomi Gives African Consumers Access To Their Products Through Jumia

Jumia signed a partnership with Xiaomi Inc. to give consumers in Africa access to their products. Romain Christodoulou, Senior Vice President at Jumia Group and Wang Xiang, Senior Vice President at Xiaomi Inc. signed the partnership at the MWC 2019.

The partnership is supported by an ambitious joint-marketing plan through 2019, leveraging Jumia’s digital assets and Xiaomi marketing capabilities.

Jumia expects to give Xiaomi access to its online consumers across 14 countries in Africa where it operates. In addition to their partnership, Xiaomi is also offering the Redmi GO handset exclusively in Africa.

Wang said, “The e-commerce model is part of Xiaomi’s DNA and believes that working with Jumia will help them bring innovation for everyone across Africa.”

One of Xiaomi’s aim is to drive their smartphone penetration in Africa. Smartphone penetration in Africa stood at approximately 36% in 2018, with the number expected to reach about 66% by 2025.

Romain said in a statement that their partnership will foster the smartphone adoption in Africa. Therefore contributing to the expected 66% reach by 2025.

The Xiaomi Redmi Go
Announced in Jan. 2019 and released in February, the phone is lite version. The Dual SIM flagship handset comes with Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition) that optimizes the phone’s performance. It’s as well paired with 28nm Qualcomm MSM8917 Snapdragon 425 chipset, Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 processor with a GPU of Adreno 308. Also comes with 1GB of RAM, and an on-board storage of 8GB expandable with a microSD card, and a non-removable 3,000mAh battery.

In terms of imaging and video, the front facing camera comes with 5MP and 8MP for the rear camera. The rear camera has the ability to shoot 1080p videos at 30fps.
