Safeboda Expands to Kenya, Giving Free Rides For First Timers

With over 4,000 riders (and counting) in Kampala, Uganda’s Moto-taxi hailing firm; Safeboda finally expanded its services in Nairobi, Kenya after months of research, and training riders. Safeboda took to its LinkedIn page to announce the expansion, quote, “Karibu! We are happy to announce that SafeBoda is now available in Nairobi, Kenya.”

“We are working there in exactly the same way as in Uganda, creating a community of boda drivers that value professionalism, road safety and being role models in their community,” writes Safeboda.

For starters, safeboda kenya will be operating in areas of Kilimani, Upper Hill, Lavington, Kileleshwa, and Riverside.

Safeboda will see face its competitors Taxifyboda who launched in the city before them (safeboda).

However, according to reports by Tech Moran, Kenyans still despise boda bodas most especially to a group of people that are earning less than ten dollars a day. The website also noted that mobile data can also be a challenge as well, quote, “But with partnerships, firms like SafeBoda can subsidize data for their clientele across the city.”

While TaxifyBoda is already operating in the city, its rumored that Uber also plans on launching their moto-taxi service in Kenya as well.

Notably, in a new safeboda update, the company was rolling an M-Pesa payment integration that will allows Kenyans to buy credit. The other options they have are MTN and Airtel mobile money. But since M-Pesa is so popular in the country, the company saw it as advantage to have the integration in the app.
