MTN SA Launches MTN Chat To Allow Customers Buy AirTime, Internet Bundles via WhatsApp

MTN South Africa has today launched a new service dubbed MTN Chat that will allow its customers to buy airtime as well internet bundles through WhatsApp.

According to reports by Forbes, Gareth Murphy, MTN South Africa’s online channel GM, says the telco wants its services to be more convenient by providing a better customer experience.

“It’s no secret that the telecommunications sector, around the world, has not excelled at this and we want to change that at MTN,” Murphy told Toby Shapshak, a Contributor for Forbes.

MTN today becomes the first in the telecommunication industry to offer this service. The service is provided by Clickatell, a WhatsApp Business Solution provider.

The service also allows customers check their airtime balance as well as manage their bank card details — within the messaging app.

“Working with the Clickatell team, that has much experience in this space, allowed us easily integrate MTN Chat with our existing offering. This is an exciting development for our customers,” says Mapula Bodibe, MTN SA’s Executive for Consumer Business.
