6 Features On The Galaxy S8 Duo That Galaxy Holders Haven’t Liked
Samsung in March at its Unpacked event in New York launched its newest flagships to the Galaxy series; the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones, and reports have claimed that its pre-orders have exceed those of its predecessors (the Galaxy S7 duo).
The smartphones hit the stores last Friday (April 21st) and as much as they were worth waiting for, bloggers, gadget/device reviewers as well as Galaxy fans give some of the features that they weren’t expecting to have featured/packed on the phablets. The S8 duo, Yes! are loaded with several new features but at the same time, carry forward some of the features from its predecessors, that galaxy holders didn’t like at all – and were looking forward to upgrades.
Well! we can’t say whether the new handsets are worth buying or not. However, we list six (6) of those features that came as a disappointment to Galaxy holders, bloggers, reviewers, and so forth.
Fingerprint scanner placement
Probably the most disappointing thing about the new Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus is the placement of the fingerprint sensor. The scanner is placed next to the rear camera, which get the camera smudged quite often due to accidental finger taps. Therefore, the fingerprint sensor was placed at the worst-possible location. Its predecessor had its fingerprint sensor at the front.
RAM
The South Korean decided to stick with 4GB RAM for both phones. While many expected more – like a 6GB RAM chip at least say in one of the variants, but NO! never worked out. Future smartphones will come with as much as 8GB of RAM or more. Even Samsung’s own C9 Pro much less compared to the S8 duo comes packed with 6GB of RAM. Other phablets such as the Vivo XPlay 5 Elite, and the Huawei P10 Plus too feature a 6GB RAM chip. Why not the S8 duo.
Battery
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus spot a 3000mAh and 3500mAh Li-lon batteries respectively, same as their predecessors, and we thought the South Korean smartphone firm should have gone with bigger batteries. What’s interesting is that the Galaxy C9 Pro and Galaxy A9 Pro as powered by 4000mAh and 5000mAh batteries respectively.[related-posts]
Camera
The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus carry forward the same front and rear cameras as their predecessors. The rear camera is a 12MP and 8MP for the front camera, no change at all. However, reviewers claim that the S8 duo cameras have a slight change in the apertures and could help in getting slightly better images.
Facial recognition
Facial recognition is a new technology that the company has incorporated in the S8 duo. These add to the security of the smartphones, which also come with an iris scanner and a fingerprint sensor. However, a video that was posted YouTube on how the feature could be bypassed gave many Galaxy holders second thoughts about the phablet.
According to sources from Gadgets 360, in a YouTube account iDeviceHelp – shows a video, sourced by @marcianophone (MARCIANOTECH), where the Galaxy S8’s facial recognition feature was fooled just by using the image of the user. In the video, the narrator takes another smartphone with MARCIANOTECH picture on it and took it slowly towards the phablet unlocking the device.
Bloatware
According to a review done by TimesOfIndia, Samsung seems to have done very little for removing the bloatware in the S8 duo. As mentioned by CNET website, the smartphones still come with 7-10 apps (excluding regular apps like Camera, Contacts and Calendar) that users won’t ever open.
