As we probably know, telecom firm MTN Uganda slightly made a unique change to its 14th annual Kampala Marathon where participants will have to pick from one of two causes; Improve Maternal Health (which be improving maternal health at Komamboga and Kiswa Health Centers) or Reduce Child Exposure to Cancer (which will be replacing cancer causing asbestos roofing in 20 Kampala Schools) to decide where their contributions go to.

The event’s official sponsors have already chosen to represent their cause.
First! Stanbic Bank Uganda in October contributed 225 million UGX and their contribution will be used to combat the exposure of school going children to cancer caused by asbestos roofing in Kampala and improving maternal health services at Kiswa and Komaboga Health centres.
Beverage manufacturing firm; Coca-Cola Beverages Africa Uganda (CBAU) today made a contribution of 150 million UGX and their contribution is set to go towards the maternal health cause, becoming the first partner for this year’s event that is support this cause.

During the press conference that was held at the Rwenzori Bottling Company head offices in Namave, Kampala, while handing over the cheque, CBAU officials confirmed that they had selected to support improving maternal health in Komamboga and Kiswa health centers – one of the two causes selected for the MTN Kampala Marathon.
“This year, Coca-Cola’s contribution will go towards improving maternal health through providing better facilities in Kiswa and Komamboga health centers,” reads a statement by CCBAU.
Handing over the Company’ s contribution to positive social change within communities in Uganda, Coca-Cola Beverages Africa Directors said the company was committed to improving Uganda through its regular business operations and partnering with causes like the MTN Marathon.
MTN’s Chief Marketing Officer Olivier Prentout welcomed CCBA’s sponsorship of the MTN Kampala Marathon. ‘We are proud to enjoy such a strong partnership with Rwenzori Mineral Water. To rally behind initiatives to cause a better standard of life for our customers and Ugandans at large is what true corporate social responsibility is.”
The MTN Kampala Marathon contributions all go to causes and over the last 13 editions, nearly 3 billion UGX has been raised.
