Facebook Ban on App Pre-Installation on Huawei Phones

Huawei is still on U.S. “Entity List” — that bans the Chinese firm from conducting any business with U.S. companies. We have seen major companies like Google, Microsoft, Intel, Qualcomm, ARM, among others, suspend and halt their business with Huawei.

Google halting its business is one of the major blows following considering that Huawei phones run on Android software.

Huawei saw this coming with Hongmeng as it back up plan. The software will probably come with its future devices only if the trade-war between China and U.S. isn’t settled any time sooner.

Hongmeng is reported to have been trademarked in at least nine countries.

The latest in the Huawei ban we had not heard of is from Facebook. One of the biggest social networking companies in the world — owning their marquee app; Facebook, then WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger. In a combination, they have nearly 6 billion active users globally, according to a report by Smart in Sights.

If the ban remains in place, the 6 billion is going to reduce tremendously. In an exclusive article published by Reuters, says, Facebook Inc. is no longer allowing pre-installation of its apps on Huawei phones.

This means all new and future phones won’t be coming with Facebook apps pre-installed. However, if you buy a Huawei phone before Aug. 2019, you will still be able to download it from the Google Playstore. After August, all its new phones will not have access to the Google Playstore as well the Facebook apps.

Huawei phones also come with Twitter as a pre-installed app. The micro-blogging website declined to comment on its services with the Chinese firm when Reuters reached out.

Notably, the U.S. Department of Commerce granted a temporary exemptions that sees Google working with Huawei till Aug. 19th, 2019 to ensure its customers have access to software, apps and security updates.
