Looks like the curse of the explosive Galaxy Note 7 franchise is still lingering around Samsung after China’s Huawei getting ahead of the South Korean conglomerate as the most profitable Android smartphone manufacturer in the world.
Whereas Apple continued to dominate the global smartphone market, with a staggering 91% operating profit market share, Huawei came in second, controlling 2.4% of the global smartphone operating profit share ($200 million) in the third quarter of 2016.
However, Huawei’s gains against Samsung may be short-lived since Samsung has the ability to bounce back in the coming months and year with the launch of a new flagship product.
That is not stopping Huawei from setting targets still. The company’s consumer business CEO Richard Yu Chengdong says they aim to be the second biggest player in the smartphone arena behind Apple within two years.
