Hands On: Quick Review & First Impressions of the Infinix Note 6

This year Infinix Mobility has launched two smartphones, the first being its 32MP Camera Self-Centric Smartphone – Infinix S4, and then the Infinix Note 6. But the focus today is the Note 6, the successor of the 2018 Infinix Note 5.

The company stuck to launching one handset just like last years — unlike in 2017 when the company launched two handsets; Note 4 and Note 4 Pro.

The Note 6 comes with a few upgraded features and specifications compared to its predecessor — but nothing much has changed. One feature being the X Pen which we didn’t see with the Note 5. Quoting infinix, “The newly upgraded X Pen combines AI and AR technology to redefine the fun of drawing experiences that go beyond the norm.”

The Infinix Note is priced at UGX750,000, which is affordable for a stylus smartphone. It is available in black, blue, and mocha brown color options. PC Tech Magazine at the time of the launch received a mocha brown variant for a full review.

Unboxing (What is Inside the Box)
The packaging still remains the same as the predecessor. Sitting on top is the 6-Inch Infinix Note 6 handset. Underneath is a case housing the manual, x pen guide, x club card, sim injector tool and screen protector.

Seen far below is the transparent silicon jelly case, charging brick, a microUSB 2.0, and standard 3.5mm audio jack.

Quick Review
While we haven’t fully tested the ability of the phone, from our first impressions, we draw out our quick review.

The 6-Inch is left, the same seen on the Note 5. However, this time around adds the AMOLED display to the Note 6 which produces accurate colors, fair contrast, dip blacks & white, and well saturated colors. The display is FHD+ and comes with a screen resolution of 1080×2160 pixels which is pretty good.

Has a screen ration of 18:9, and what impressed us much is that in video viewing mode you can zoom in the video to occupy the whole screen. Videos that are still made today are of 16:9 aspect ratio.

The Note 6 has the uniboday design with the metal build from its predecessors (Note 4 Pro and Note 5 Stylus). Placed side-by-side with the Note 5 Stylus, even with the display still the same, the Note 6 is thinner and smaller. Infinix reduced some the bezels and cut its chin as well.

A run through the design, volume and power buttons appear on the right, and sim and microSD card slot on the left sides. At the bottom you have x pen housing, single speaker grill, microUSB port, and 3.5mm auido jack. At the back, you have a triple rear camera a huge development from the Note 5 that had single camera,

The Note 6 comes with Android 9.0 (Pie) with the company’s UI skin; the XOS v5.0 on top. In our opinion, the company could keep its Note series on the Android one program but wasn’t the case for the Note 6. The program gives clean and smooth apps, less drops in performance, doesn’t come with unnecessary ads.

The Note 6 comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage, expandable to 128GB with a microSD card.

First Impressions

  1. Price: The price is fair in our opinion. UGX750,000 for a stylus smartphone which is UGX19,000 short of its predecessor.
  2. AMOLED display: Infinix adopting to smartphone trends, like the AMOLED display is a good enough first impression.
  3. Improvement in camera performance. The rear and front-facing cameras give good photos compared to the Note 5.
  4. The design and build is smaller and thinner. Thus, it is solid, light-weight, and compact.
  5. Ability to zoom the video to maximize the whole aspect ratio (18:9).
