Uber to invest $500 million to map the world’s roads

Uber which heavily relies heavily on Google’s extensive maps wants to stand on their own.

A report in the Financial Times has revealed that the company is planning to invest half a billion dollars into creating its own worldwide maps.

This move will allow the company to create their own detailed maps, and to build up tailor-made maps that would provide the details they require.

More detailed maps are essential to Uber’s operations and its future since they have begun taking steps into using autonomous vehicles, which would rely heavily on precise maps.

Former Google employees HAVE BEEN acquired, to help out with the process, and they have forged partnerships with companies such as TomTom and DigitalGlobe.
