Twitter is Considering Editable Tweets – Jack

Micro-blogging social website, Twitter Inc. is said to be considering the possibility of adding an ‘edit’ feature for tweets, but the original version of the tweet would still be viewable.

However, the details on this particular matter, are still unclear.

Twitter’s CEO, Jack Dorsey during a podcast interview with Podcast Host, Joe Rogan suggested a 5-30 seconds delay in sending the tweet and within that window a user is be able to edit their tweet. He, however told Rogan that the issue with going longer than that (5-30 seconds) is it takes that real-time nature of the conversational flow out of it.

It’s not the first time Twitter users have requested for this feature. Jack in Dec. 2016 commented on the oft-requested feature.

On why Twitter users aren’t in position of editing their tweets, Jack said the platform was built on an SMS format of text messaging.

“Once you send a text, you can’t take it back. When you send a tweet, it goes to the world instantaneously. You can’t take it back,” said Jack.

Little is known on this particular issue. For now, it’s good news to know that Twitter is considering on having the edit feature introduced to all its platforms.

Notably, Jack in Oct. 2018 suggested that he considers the ‘like’ (heart) feature that was introduced in 2015 as a replacement for ‘favourites,” a star-shaped button removed from the platform — in a bid to improve the quality of debate.
