MTN Uganda Has Enabled Internet Free Access to 17 Educational Websites

While the pandemic; COVID-19 is still at large, companies like MTN Uganda still further supporting the fight against the spread of the virus, from scrapping off transaction fees on sending mobile money to setting aside an immediate fund of UGX500 million to help the Ministry of Health in the fight to introducing work from home bundles, to mention a few.

Now the telecommunication firm; has offer internet free access to 17 select educational websites for learners to home school following the directive of Pres. Museveni to close all schools for the next 30-days. Through this access, MTN believes that Ugandans will be able to stay safe at home and learn while at it.

The 17 educational sites include;

  14. www.sciencekids.co.nz
  15. www.switchzoo.com
  16. www.turtlediary.com
  17. www.e-learningforkids.org

Notably, National Information and Technology Authority – Uganda (NITA-U), an autonomous government parastatal under the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance in Uganda, partnered with UNICEF and introduced a a free-of-charge, and easy to use digital learning platform; ‘Kolibri’ with education content approved by the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC). It is aimed at empowering students with skills required to survive in this era of information technology.

Kolibri content covers science and mathematics for only O-Level students, that’s from senior 1 to senior 4. Each topic is presented with illustrations; some of which are in video format. This will ensure that the students are occupied during this quarantine period, till schools are re-opened.
