Most plans, whether Prepaid or Postpaid have some kind of data limitation (unless you’re on an unlimited plan of course!). Whether you’re streaming YouTube video after video, listening to Mdundo all day, or simply stalking (read browsing) Facebook and Instagramming your latest meal, you’re going to need some kind of data plan.
But how do you know what is enough, too much or too little when it comes to choosing your data plan? Knowing how much internet data you need is crucial, you don’t want to pay over the odds for a data package that you don’t use (a very rare scenario).
MTN Data Calculator will give you an estimate of how much data you’ll use each month, week or day.
The Data Calculator gives you an approximate figure for your monthly or weekly or daily data usage based on the average size of an email, download, upload, webpages opened, Social Media activity, streaming and Mobile Apps activity. The actual amount of data you use each month may be more or less than this estimated figure.
How it works;
Data usage is worked out by adding together everything that is downloaded and uploaded on the mobile internet connection.
Enter your daily, weekly or monthly data usage on each activity, by adjusting the sliders to point at how much data you roughly spend.
The calculator adds up the selections in real-time and gives you an idea of what Data Plans are right for you.
Estimations are based on these values:
Activity | Approx. Data Usage |
Web Pages | Avg. 1MB / pages visit |
Emails | Avg. 100kb / emails |
Social Media | 800kb / post |
Streaming Audio | 42MB / hr |
Video Streaming | 350MB / hr |
Music Download | 5.7MB / song |
Series Download | 300MB / series |
Movie Downloads | 1.5GB / movie |
App Downloads | 20MB / app |
eBooks | 1MB / book |
However, the data amounts usage suggested per unit by the Calculator are estimates only. The size of apps, songs, web pages and e-mails may vary widely. Streaming video in HD may also generate increased usage. Actual data usage will vary depending on the specific content viewed or downloaded, your device type and other factors.
Tethering and setting up a WiFi Hotspot also require data usage but they are not included in the estimate provided by the data calculator yet they consume large amounts of data.
