Opportunity: 2016 Ford-Mozilla Open Web Fellows Application

Ford-Mozilla Open Web Fellows is proud to announce their second cohort of host organizations, who are looking for eight talented individuals to advise, build, and learn during their 10-month fellowships in the program.

The Open Web Fellows program a collaboration between Ford Foundation and Mozilla is an international leadership initiative which was launched on September 30th, 2014 brings together technology talent and civil society organizations to advance and protect the open Web. Last year, was a big year for the Open Web that they became a mainstream phrase in the United States.

Open Web Fellows program exact goals are to:

  • Increase public awareness and understanding of Internet policy issues.
  • Support career paths in the Internet policy and advocacy sector.
  • Celebrate and support the vibrant network of Internet advocacy organizations.

Who can become a Fellow?
It could be you! Ford-Mozilla looks for makers who see a problem in the world and can solve it through technology or media. The right candidate might bring specialities in design, development, storytelling, research and policy analysis to name a few, and should be comfortable performing as a technologist, a tinkerer, and a curious contributor to the fellowship program.

You do not need to have previous experience with Internet advocacy, policy or activism. A lot of campaign design, community organizing, education, and coalition building happen through teamwork. You can be at any stage in your career, provided you are open to learning.

Open Web Fellows program is an international program with host organizations around the world; fellows will be placed in Canada, Chile, Kenya, the European Union, and the United States.

Host Organizations
Each year, each Fellow spends 10 months embedded at leading policy & advocacy organizations dedicated to safeguarding the open Internet as a global public resource. Fellows are based in the town of their host organization unless special circumstances dictate otherwise.

The 2016 host organizations are:

  • Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law in Nairobi, Kenya.
  • The Citizen Lab, Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada.
  • org in New York.
  • Data & Society in New York.
  • Derechos Digitales in Santiago, Chile.
  • European Digital Rights in Brussels, Belgium.
  • Freedom of the Press Foundation in San Francisco, California.
