BACKGROUND
In January 2014, UNICEF has set up a cross-sectoral Global Innovation Centre. The vision of the newly established Global Innovation Centre is enabling exponential change in reducing inequities and achieving programme effectiveness and results for children. It focuses on innovations that benefit the most deprived people, and the areas with the highest level of inequity, specifically focusing on technologies, tools and solutions that can be deployed and used in remote areas and by people who do not have access to feature technology.

UNICEF´s Innovation Centre focuses on development and global scale of generic solutions, and in close collaboration with UNICEF Country Offices supports the set-up and roll-out of those innovations, specifically in the following main areas:

Since January 2016 UNICEF Innovation Centre is working with Foundation for Learning Equality to develop Kolibri, a new digital content system that will produce a global, scalable solution for access to information and quality learning. Kolibri will build on UNICEF´s past experience with digital content platforms, such as the U-Portal, and combine it with FLE´s KA-Lite system, to become a more flexible system that supports formal and informal learning, provides offline access to content packages specifically targeting the needs of learners and teachers in contexts with limited infrastructure.

Pilot testing of the new Kolibri system has just started and will continue throughout the next months. Innovation Centre is therefore seeking to engage a volunteer that can help carry out various software testing and content editing tasks from a user perspective during the ongoing software development and pilot phase.
