Mr Fredrick Kiyingi, the district education officer for Wakiso District has warned teachers in his area that they risk punitive action if found with Mobile phones while teaching.
He issued the directive after discovering that many teachers go to class to teach but end up wasting time on social media.
“The habit of teachers wasting time on social media while in class is a serious issue, which is affecting the academic performance of our learners…”
Mr Kiyingi made the remarks while addressing parents and teachers of Bright Future Primary School, Gayaza in Nangabo Sub-county on Monday, where he said using social media while in class was affecting the academic performance of the learners.
He said they had already issued circulars notifying schools, and any teacher who will defy it will face tough disciplinary measures.
