Facebook’s vice president for Latin America Diego Dzodan who was arrested on Tuesday earlier this week after a judge said he failed to cooperate with a drug trafficking and organized crime investigation has finally been released.
The arrest of Diego Dzodan came only months after a Brazilian court ordered mobile phone companies to block the WhatsApp app for 48 hours just because they had refused to cooperate with the law for failing to comply with a July court order in a criminal case. The move scrambled communications for many of WhatsApp 100 million users in Brazil for around 12 hours.
The Guardian reported saying that, WhatsApp insisted that it is unable to provide information that they don’t have to the authorities. In a statement released on Wednesday, the company said: “Arresting people with no connection to pending law enforcement investigation is a capricious step and we are concerned about the effects for the people of Brazil and innovation in the country.”
Facebook reported in a statement that it operates separately from WhatsApp and it was disappointed with extreme measures for involving Diego Dzodan, Facebook’s Vice President for Latin America.[related-posts]
