YouTube may be working to bring more live 360-degree videos to you.
According to BuzzFeed, the company is meeting with several 360-degree camera manufacturers about hosting videos seamlessly on its service even live.
The crux of the issue involves image stitching, which is the back-end software that takes all of your disparate images and cobbles them into a 360-degree image. Google uses similar technology for its Photo Sphere feature on the stock Android camera.
At Google I/O last year, Google unveiled a GoPro camera ensemble that can stream 360-degree video. As BuzzFeed points out, that device was created in cooperation with GoPro, so Google (and YouTube) are intimately aware of its technical capabilities and software.
It’s not clear if YouTube is simply trying to seed more of its software into existing cameras or creating a program to qualify official partners but it seems that more live 360-degree video is on the way.[related-posts]
