As internet penetration and usage in Uganda continues to rise and many Ugandans are now accustomed to using the internet for many tasks, companies and organisations have innovated to serve their customers with their evolving usage habits.
Uganda Revenue Authority won’t be left behind by the “mobile app trend”, they have just unveiled their first mobile application, AskURA.
The app which currently is available for Android was officially unveiled today at the URA head office in Nakawa.
Speaking at the launch this morning, URA Commissioner General, Doris Akol said, “We appreciate that a large number of Ugandans have embraced technology/applications and as such we would like to extend our services to clients who may want to transact using this service option.”
The AskURA has quite a number of features which you might like to use, including registering payments, viewing tax payer profile information, searching for payment status, whistle blowing, and accessing tax related information with the Tax assistant.
The application is meant to supplement URA’s core systems like eTax for Domestic Taxes and Asycuda World for Customs (international trade taxes).
URA Assistant Commissioner Information Technology, James Kizza emphasized the dynamic development process saying “The application is ready for use. Several tests have been done to ensure it works efficiently. However, improvements will be continuous.”
Indeed the application has been on Play Store for a while and is launching at V23.
It is commendable that AskURA has been developed internally by the URA software development team and not outsourced to an offshore consulting firm as they have done with previous systems including their main website.
If you are more of an Apple or Windows kind of person, fret not, versions for iOS and Windows are apparently in the works and will be available soon.
To download the app visit the Play Store and search for AskURA or visit this link on your computer and if you are signed in you just click install and select which device you want it on.
We are going to continue testing out the application and will soon write a review.
