Twitter is redesigning its follow and tweet buttons with an aim to make them flatter, attractive and work better.

The new icons will remove the share count displayed next to the button and flatten its overall look.

As part of the update Twitter will be closing down the share count API, so developers can’t create unofficial buttons with the share count displayed next to them.

Follower counts will continue to be available and the new buttons show in the exact same pixel dimensions as before, so there won’t be any action required for most developers unless they’re displaying the share count.

The updates are rolling out next month.
