Huawei to Share Best LTE Industry Practices at the 2013 LTE Africa Summit

lte-africaCape Town, South Africa, July 8, 2013:  Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced its participation as a lead sponsor of the first LTE Africa Summit hosted by Informa. Huawei’s participation in this event will also include a global team of high level LTE experts.

“Huawei’s end-to-end LTE capabilities, emerging market low ARPU experience plus a deep understanding of the African market make us and our technologies the best partner for operators and subscribers across the continent.” said Mr. Samuel Chen, Huawei Vice President for Huawei East & Southern Africa Region. Mr. Chen added that Huawei has already deployed successful LTE networks for Movicel in Angola, Zoda Fones in Nigeria, MTC in Namibia, Telkom Mobile in South Africa, and MTN in Uganda.

At this inaugural wireless technology event in Cape Town, Huawei is placing considerable emphasis on the potential for LTE TDD in Africa. According to the Informa LTE TDD year book for 2013, about 40% of the world’s highest-ranking economies (by GDP) have already issued TDD spectrum. GSA’s “Evolution to LTE” report released in March this year shows that, 69 out of a total of 156 commercial LTE networks deployed worldwide utilize the 1800MHz spectrum. Pioneering TDD deployment and commercialization, Huawei’s leading SingleRAN LTE solution has been deployed on 41 (59%) of these commercial LTE 1800MHz networks in 32 countries.

The company’s solutions for LTE build upon Huawei’s original SingleRAN innovation, allowing for industry movement away from voice-and-text and pure-pipe services to an era of data diversity and new vertical market revenue streams where, to sustain business potential as mobile broadband develops, operators will focus more and more on user experience.

In 2004, Huawei commenced LTE technology and product R&D. Since then the company and pioneering partner operators have been the recipients of multiple awards Most recently, Huawei was recognized at the 2013 LTE World Summit in Amsterdam, with the award for “Most Innovative LTE Commercial Launch” honoring deployment of the world’s largest GSM/LTE 1800MHz Refarming network.” Using Huawei’s end-to-end SingleRAN LTE/EPC solution, the UK partner operator was able to integrate an existing GSM network and a new LTE network on a single platform to simplify overall network architecture, realize significant savings on expenditures for new spectral resources, and reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and carbon emissions.

As of May 2013, Huawei had been awarded more than 180 commercial LTE network contracts and deployed 85 commercial LTE networks worldwide. With a global business footprint on six continents, Huawei’s LTE covers more than 80 capitals and nine top global financial centers.
