Google planning to take on Amazon with “buy” button

googleGoogle is planning to launch a “buy” button to enable you to purchase merchandise online from some of its retailers.

The “buy” button will let shoppers search for products and purchase them direct from the search results page. It’s a similar concept to Amazon’s “one-click ordering” system.

This will keep traffic on Google’s own home page rather than sending them away to retail websites following a Google product search.

Google won’t follow Amazon’s lead in establishing vast warehouses of goods though. This would simply be a front end for selling goods from third party retailers.

Reports indicate that these plans are in the preliminary discussion stage at present, and there’s no guarantee that anything will come of them. The report claims that some retailers who have discussed the plans with Google are cool on the idea.
