NCC shuts down Owntel for lack of licence

owntelOwntel Communications has been shut down by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

NCC saysthat the shut down was because of  ‘illegal’ operations of Owntel Communications, stating that the company does not hold the required operating licences.

News reports indicate that Owntel had been selling and installing fixed and mobile telecoms terminals, as well as providing vehicle tracking services, without a concession from the regulator.

‘Owntel is providing telecommunication services, especially vehicle tracking services, which involve network and data services that require a licence, yet it is operating without [one],’ head of enforcement at the NCC, Salisu Abdul, told journalists.
