Google and LG to share patents for the next decade

LG_LOGO1LG has announced that it is entering a global patent license agreement with Google which will allow the two tech heavyweights to share existing patents, as well as those filed over the next 10 years.

The two companies have been partnering for a while, with LG manufacturing the last two Android flagship devices, the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5.

LG also joined Google’s Open Automotive Alliance earlier this year to boost innovation in automobile technology.

The press release doesn’t mention exactly which areas of business these patents will address, but they could possibly pertain to mobile and automotive technologies given the aforementioned collaborative efforts.

Google also entereda very similar 10-year agreement with Samsung earlier this year, so it’ll be interesting to see how the two device manufacturers take advantage of these deals.
