Its Official, Microsoft now owns ‘Minecraft’

minecraftToday, Microsoft has announced that  it has acquired Mojang, the company behind Minecraft, after weeks of rumors.

The software giant has revealed that it paid $2.5 billion for the gaming company,  a figure which falls in line with earlier estimates.

With this deal, the founders of Mojang will depart the company, according to a press release from Mojang.

Microsoft says  Minecraft “is one of the most popular video games in history, with more than 100 million downloads, on PC alone, by players since its launch in 2009.

Minecraft fans are loyal, with nearly 90 percent of paid customers on the PC having signed in within the past 12 months.”
