World Summit Awards Mobile 2014: Nominations closed, Jury open

selectingmobilebrillianceFrom August 1st to 31st, an international experts’ jury will evaluate 454 national nominees from 95 UN-member states to select this year’s best mobile content for the World Summit Award Mobile (WSA-mobile). The jury will award five products in each of the eight contest categories.

WSA-mobile is a global follow up initiative of the UN World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). Its goal is to foster the richness and diversity of mobile content around the globe and to award best practice in content production. “WSA-mobile is unique in its focus on content richness. Hence the WSA-mobile categories and the jury members reflect all parts of social and cultural life,” states Prof. Peter A. Bruck, WSA-mobile chairman.

Jury members have backgrounds in the creative industries, telecommunication, advertising, journalism and research, as well as in teaching. According to Bruck, the jury will judge the value of the content as well as the product’s design and its technical realisation. Furthermore, each nominee’s contribution to bridging the digital divide will play a central role for the jury.

For the contest winners, WSA-mobile is a chance to raise global awareness for their products. They will be invited to the WSA-mobile Global Congress will take place in Abu Dhabi, February 1st to 3rd 2015. The event will offer a platform for WSA-mobile Winners to present their services and projects to potential partners and investors. Furthermore, the event will include a conference, hosting internationally renowned experts and opinion leaders in the ICT and mobile technology sector.

Organised by the International Center for New Media (ICNM) in Salzburg, the World Summit Award Mobile is a global initiative within the framework of, and in cooperation with, the United Nations World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), in collaboration with UNESCO, UNIDO and UN GAID. Abu Dhabi, as the city of the award’s key partner ADSIC (Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre), is the host for the WSA-mobile Awards.
