WhatsApp Officially Rolls Out the ‘Revoke’ Feature to all its Users
Facebook-owned social messaging platform; WhatsApp for almost a year now had been working on how its user would revoke or recall or delete embarrassing messages, or mistaken sent messages to a wrong person. Having been in the beta program for a few selected users, the social platform has finally made its Recall and Revoke feature official globally for Android, iOS, and Windows users as well as desktop users. On the other hand, the update also comes embedded with the recently announced native WhatsApp emojis (which many have said still takes a cue from those of Apple’s).
The recall feature now lets users to revoke or edit a sent message, in case they happen to change their mind – perhaps sent to the wrong person. The recalled message will be deleted from the recipient’s smartphone as well – only if the recipient hasn’t read the message as yet. This kind of feature is similar to Google’s undo your sent message/mail.
The revoke comes with three (3) options; Delete from Everyone (applies for both parties – the sender and the recipient), Delete from Me (applies to only the send), and Cancel (applies when you don’t want to delete the message – in other words let it go) once you ought to delete you message.
How is this done:
- First off, ensure you update your WhatsApp to the latest version on your device’s app store.
- Launch the app, send a message to any one on your contact or chat list – individual or group chat.
- When the message has been sent and delivered (indicated by the double-mark line), hold the message you wish to unsend and click on the trash can icon at the top of the screen.
- Afterwards, click on Delete from Everyone or Delete from Me option from the pop-up menu. That way, both you (the sender) and the recipient will no longer see the message.
However, it is worth noting that you are given 7 minutes to delete the message after sending it. Any second after 7 minutes, the text cannot be retracted. Also, both parties need to have the latest version WhatsApp for the revoke feature to work.
