Hive Colab Will Host the 4th Annual 1776 Global Challenge Cup – calls for applications

Washington-based Global Incubator and Seed Fund firm, 1776 in partnership with investment firm Revolution, an active champion for the emergence of entrepreneurial communities and startups together with tech-incubation hub Hive Colab will host the fourth annual global Challenge Cup competition that seeks to find innovative startups solving the world’s most complex and challenging problems often overlooked with respect to venture funding and access to entrepreneurial resources.

Mrs. Barbara Birungi Mutabazi; Director at Hive Colab in a press statement said, the goal of challenge is not literally that you compete, win and go home with a trophy.

“The idea of the challenge is to nudge startups to do better and think of what matters. The challenge has different themes which all aim at social innovation with a for profit arm,” she said.

The Challenge Cup is also presented in partnership with investment firm Revolution, an active champion for the emergence of entrepreneurial communities and startups outside of Silicon Valley.

Notbaly, last year, 1776 crowed MUrgency; a Dubai-based company that uses the power of mobile technology and networks to create one seamless global emergency response network – as winners of the 2016 Global Challenge Cup while Twiga Foods; a mobile-based supply platform for Africa’s retail outlets, kiosks, and market stalls – from Mombasa won the 2015 Global Challenge Cup.

These are 5 African cities that will host the 2017 ‘1776 Global Challenge Cup‘:

  1. Hive Colab — Kampala, Uganda.
  2. Iceaddis — Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
  3. iHub — Nairobi, Kenya.
  4. iSpace Foundation — Accra, Ghana.
  5. BIAT — Tunis, Tunisia.

Honorable Mention:
On-demand laundry service app, Yoza in 2016 emerged winners in the People’s Choice award category at the 1776 Global Startup Challenge after their successful nomination in the category. Their win got them an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C where they pitched alongside 69 other entrepreneurs to compete in the 1776 Global Startup Challenge final round.
