Understanding the Differences Between FHD and 4K. What should you choose?

A number of factors should be put into consideration before you make a choice of what screen resolution you want, Full HD or Ultra HD.

If you are into movies and you fancy watching one when it’s crystal clear, chances are you have interfaced with the different terms in reference to the picture quality of the movie.

The different acronyms used when it comes to screen descriptions make it hard to know what format is right for you.

The different descriptions refer to the resolution with some allowing more details to be seen. The materials, the textures, the skin texture of the actors, the backgrounds: everything is richer and more realistic depending on the resolution.

The term “HD Ready,” is used to describe a television or monitor, that refers to a 720p image resolution which contains 720 lines of pixels along the vertical axis, and 1,280 lines of pixels along the horizontal axis. Thus, the image is 720 pixels tall and 1,280 pixels wide. This results in a total pixel count of 921,600. This is the lowest image resolution considered high definition. The difference between HD Ready (or HD), Full HD, and 4K (Ultra HD) can be seen below:

  • HD: 720p image resolution (1,280 x 720 pixels – approximately 1 million total pixels).
  • Full HD: 1080p image resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels – approximately 2 million total pixels).
  • Ultra HD: 4K image resolution (3,840 x 2,160 pixels – approximately 8 million total pixels).

A 4K definition television has 4x more pixels than an HDTV to display the same scene on the same surface. At the same time, the resolution is multiplied by a factor of 2.

The most important difference between a Full HD TV and a 4K TV, is that the latter one provides a sharper image than the first one.

What is the best resolution available?

An 8K resolution is the highest you can find in the TV and camera markets. Devices with 8K have a pixel count of 7680×4320 — that’s more than 33 million pixels in the total image. However, if you are streaming most of your content by watching Netflix, you will never be taking advantage of the quality of an 8K television.

What should you choose?

A number of factors should be put into consideration before you make a choice. If you are a gamer or movie watcher? It’s wise to choose a 4K resolution since most movies and games are available in that resolution. If you mainly watch the news, talk shows, and a movie once in a while, Full HD should be your consideration.

The distance between you and the television and the screen size is also important. The larger the television and the closer you sit to the screen, the more you’ll be able to benefit from a 4K experience.

Where can I buy it?

The choice of which brand to buy and where to buy will be greatly influenced by your purchasing power and payment terms. Our recommendation is you go to an authorized brand store which will give you a walk-through of the available options available. Some stores like Carrefour support the option of paying in installments where you have a period of three months within which you can clear the bill.
