Amazon’s Black Friday deals actually start this week

On Wednesday the online retail giant announced that it would begin offering its Black Friday deals this Friday, November 20, with deals continuing throughout Black Friday, which takes place on the 28th.

Similar to the company’s Prime Day event in July, Amazon says that new deals will be added as often as every five minutes.

Beginning on midnight of Thanksgiving, the company will be offering ten of its “Deals of the Day,” with up to ten more Deals of the Day coming on Black Friday. As is the Amazon custom, there will be thousands of special “lightning deals” offered, with subscribers of Amazon’s $99 per year Prime subscription service getting a 30-minute head start on a majority of the deals.

While the company hasn’t yet revealed what products will be discounted on Black Friday, over the next eight days shoppers can expect to see deep discounts on the company’s own line of devices, including the Fire TV streaming stick for $24.99 ($15 off), a Kindle Paperwhite for $99.99 ($20 off) and the company’s new 7-inch Fire Android tablet for $34.99 ($15 off). These deals will be available even if shoppers don’t have a Prime account.

Other Amazon devices such as the Fire TV streaming box, Fire TV Stick with voice remote and Fire Kids Edition tablet will also see discounts, though no word yet on if there will be a deal on the company’s popular Amazon Echo, which retails for $179.99.

Beyond Amazon’s own gear, there will be the usual discounts on TVs popping up over the next eight days, including a 32-inch TCL Roku Smart TV for $125 (a discount of $54.99), a 32-inch, brand unknown HDTV for $75, a 40-inch, brand unknown, 1080p HDTV for $145, a TCL Roku 55-inch Smart TV for $348 ($201 off) and a “top-selling” 60-inch 4K TV for $799.99. Amazon will also be offering a Jawbone UP3 fitness tracker for $99 ($49.99 off), a Vizio 38-inch 2.1 home theater sound bar for $79.99, and Sonos PLAY:1 2-room starter set for $349 ($49 off).[related-posts]

There will also be the usual assortment of video game discounts, including $50 offXbox One consoles and $50 off a PlayStation 4 Uncharted bundle.

MOBILE APP DEALS
In a bid to get more people to shop in its mobile app over the Black Friday weekend, Amazon will be be making over 150 “hand-picked” Lightning Deals available inside its mobile app for iOS, Android and the company’s Fire OS. These deals can be found inside an “App Only Deals” section in the app and will be released daily between 6 PM ET to 2 AM ET starting on Thanksgiving. Similar to Amazon’s extension of Black Friday deals to the week before, these in-app deals will continue to pop up through Wednesday, December 9.

Early highlights of the in-app exclusive deals include a Hisense 55-inch 4K Smart LED TV for $448 ($331.99 off) and a 50-inch, brand unknown, 1080p LED TV for $149.99.

In an effort to help people stay alerted to the deals they’re interested in, a new “Watch A Deal” feature will allow users to highlight Lightning Deals they care about in the app and get notifications on their phone for when they are live.

Amazon is the latest to join the growing push to extend Black Friday beyond a one day event. Late last month Target and Walmart announced that they would begin offering discounts throughout the month of November, while Best Buy and Walmart-ownedSam’s Club have held “pre-Black Friday” events on the past two Saturdays.
