Seedstars World which is part of the Swiss group Seedstars and runs the global startup competition covering over 65+ emerging and developing markets, identify the best seed-stage startups, give them pitch training and award the winners with an opportunity to compete at the global Seedstars Summit.
Seedstars World has so far selected nine (9) startups from 9 African cities for its Seedstar Global Summit that will be held in Switzerland next year with Bissau and Maputo being the latest cities. The seven (7) other cities include; Harare, Accra, Kigali, Kampala, Kinshasa, Nairobi, and Dakar.
Agriculture Technology startup; Bandim Online, currently in their Beta Testing Stage, have developed a Web and USSD platform that allows customers to have visibility of the products available from producers and thus facilitate commercialization. Solving a problem where producers lose more than 50% of their harvest due to lack of access to the local and international market.
The startup thus emerged winner of seedstar Bissau pitch competition in Guinea-Bissau, Ubuntu 2S, and IGOPE came in 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
Ubuntu 2S is an Industrial, Energy, and Clean Technology startup that is sloving the problem of lack of electricity in sub-Saharan Africa that is causing the production of fuels that contribute to allergies…, killing 4 millions people. Their solution; is a combination of solar and ICT that aims to give Africans access to clean energy, create job opportunities and change people lives.
IGOPE a consumer services startup for their solution IGOPE which collects and organizes the opinion of society on various social issues. Looking at a problem of disorganization of public opinion in decision making.
Bandim Online team will in December this year travel to Tanzania for a 3-day Regional summit before heading off to Switzerland in 2019 for the global summit. 70 startups will pitch where only one startup will be crowned Seedstar Global Winner.
