OnePlus unveils the 5T smartphone with facial recognition for unlocking

OnePlus has unveiled its new 5T smartphone. The device will launch worldwide from 21 November for a starting price of USD 499.

The 5T features a large 6-inch AMOLED display with 18:9 ratio for enhanced video viewing. The Sunlight Display can adapt automatically to changes in light level, and users can calibrate their screens across four different modes, including default, sRGB, DCI-P3 and adaptive. OnePlus also moved the fingerprint scanner to the back of the device, to free up more room for the screen on the front.

Also improved is the dual rear camera with 16- and 20-megapixel lenses. The 5T features the same main camera as that of the OnePlus 5, but boasts an improved secondary camera equipped with a large f/1.7 aperture for superior low light photography. Its Intelligent Pixel Technology on the secondary camera merges four pixels into one, reducing noise in low-light environments and enhancing clarity.

The OnePlus 5T also comes with Android Refined, an update of its OxygenOS operating system to improve speed and add new features such as Face Unlock. The latter allows users to unlock their phone just by looking at.

Other features of the phone include fast charging with OnePlus’ Dash Charge system and a 3,300 mAh battery, 6 or 8 GB RAM and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. The 5T will be available with a choice of 64 or 128 GB storage.
