Editor’s Pick: Keep Your Smartphone as Good as New – here’s how

Every single year, we see smartphone makers launch new smartphones within their line of productions such as the Galaxy series, iPhone series, Pixel series, P series (for Huawei), Xiaomi series, to mention a few. And to those that have money to purchase them, have indeed purchased them – since the price won’t be that favorable for everyone. Each new flagship that tends to come out every year has to be slightly a higher than its predecessor in terms of price.

So if you have an old phone, there are certain simple things that you can do to ensure that your smartphone’s performance stays almost as good as it was when you first bought your phone (same thing goes to those that might have the newest phablets – this might also apply to you) – here is how:

Use a phone case and a screen protector
This is probably the most obvious thing that at least you should have in mind, but nevertheless it’s important. Whether you are using a smartphone that is brand new or one that you’ve had for a few months, it’s always advisable to keep it protected with a case and a screen protector. That way, it has a better chance of not breaking in case it falls or getting scratches.

Don’t clutter the Home Screen
This is similar to keeping the desktop of your computer or laptop decluttered. The way having too many files on a computer’s desktop slows it down, having to many apps on a smartphone’s home screen hampers its performance. It also affects the battery life of your smartphone. So, to avoid both of these problems, keep only the necessary apps and widgets on your phone’s home screen.

Install an anti-malware app
Having an anti-virus app on your phone will ensure that it is regularly checked for any lags and malware. There are a number of them on the Google Play Store and you can pick the one you like the best.

Finally, there are other basic things that you can do to take better care of your smartphone like avoid leaving apps running in the background, forgetting the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options which end up draining your battery, always do a browser cache check – so ensure to clean it up for better performance. Lastly, avoid using live wallpapers or animated wallpapers.
