MTN Uganda Announced a One Year Sponsorship Deal to Onduparaka FC

Last weekend, telecom firm; MTN Uganda announced a one year sponsorship package to another of Uganda’s most exciting football clubs, Onduparaka Football Club at an agreed deal of 390 million UGX (approx. USD$106,997), bringing it to a total of 820 million UGX (approx. USD$224,967) following their 430 million UGX annually for 3 years (approx. USD$) sponsorship deal to KCCA Football Club in August this year.

The additional sponsorship to Onduparaka FC during the 2017/18 Uganda Azam Premier League season further cements MTN’s love for unifying the game of football and the desire to continue supporting Ugandan sport.

Val Oketcho; Corporate Communications Manager at MTN Uganda, on behalf of MTN’s CEO Wim Vanhelleputte, during the press conference held at Desert Breeze Hotel in Arua, said; the team’s brand and the wide fan base has been on a steady path of growth ever since the club was promoted to the Uganda Premier League.

“This 390 million UGX (approx. USD$106,997) sponsorship to Onduparaka FC is a sign of our commitment to ensure that the brand continues to grow further successes in resonation with our growth over the years in Uganda. We believe that it will go a long way in improving the Onduparaka brand and the welfare of the players,” Val adds.

Benjamin Nyakuni thanked the telecom firm saying, it’s sponsorship has sent a buzz through the entire team and the fans especially.

“We welcome MTN to the Onduparaka family and we receive this landmark sponsorship with such great honor,” he said.

MTN Uganda is now one of the biggest contributors to sports development in Uganda. In the past MTN sponsored the Uganda Cranes Football team which is now currently sponsored by Airtel Uganda. In addition, MTN also has sponsored, cricket national team, a club in the national rugby league, and the National Basketball League.

Bouyed the financial boost support, from MTN Uganda, “the Caterpillars” as they are nicknamed, later hosted their home fans to a Uganda Premier League fixture against Soana FC at the Green Light Stadium where they managed to seek a 2 – 0 victory. Now currently in the 3rd position in the league table, Onduparaka will be playing against Express FC this Friday at the Express home ground.
