DriveinUG Poll: SafeBoda, Uber Voted the Safest Private Transport Means in Kampala

A new opinion poll has indicated that Uber Uganda is the most convenient and safest private transport means in Uganda’s capital, Kampala.

Uber is followed by motorcycle-taxi hailing app, SafeBoda which is new to the market but gaining momentum at a faster rate.

The poll, conducted by Drive in Uganda, a premier community for driving enthusiasts in the country pitted four top private transport means across the city, including SafeBoda, Uber, Friendship Taxi and Quick Taxi.

411 people took part in the poll which ran for four days on twitter.

Out of the 411, 55% of the participants chose Uber Uganda, 33% voted Safe Boda, 7% voted Friendship Taxi while only 5% chose Quick Taxi.

Drive in Uganda Communities via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram seek to make the driving experience worthwhile in the country by engaging all the stakeholders in the sector.

They offer crucial information about behavior of auto mobiles, road network in Uganda, fuel consumption as well as analyse the different service providers in the driving section.

When contacted, SafeBoda publicist Damalie Wasukira told this website that despite having spent a shorter time in the market, they have taken a number of riders through safety training and are in the process of adding more to the app.

“At the moment the SafeBoda app request zone is limited to central Kampala and some of the suburbs because it takes time to train the riders how to use the app technology and also take them through road Safety training to make sure that we are providing the best service,” Ms Wasukira said in an email.

“We are in the process of doing this and will add more riders and expand the request zone of the app to cater for the demand. We are however happy to have over 1000 safe trips done through SafeBoda everyday so far and we are looking forward to growing this number,” she added.

Our efforts to reach Uber officials were futile as Aaron Tindisenga, the Uber Uganda country lead could not be reached on phone.[related-posts]
