Liquid Telecom completes acquisition of Tanzanian ISP Raha

Liquid Telecom, a subsidiary of Econet Global, has completed the acquisition of ISP Startel Tanzania, which offers services under the brand name Raha.

The Pan-African telecoms group has revealed that the deal will strengthen Raha’s position in the Tanzanian market through further investment in both its network and services, which include the includes the rollout of fibre across the country.

The acquisition will enable access to high speed broadband for more businesses and households, the development of the firm’s data centre and increasing the number of free Wi-Fi hotspots throughout Tanzania.

Startel Tanzania will join Liquid Telecom’s 40,000km fibre network, which connects twelve countries, as well as enhance the group’s East Africa Fibre Ring, linking Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania with direct connectivity to international subsea cables.
