Five African Startups to Compete Against Silicon Valley Tech Startups in the Startup Grind Conference

Five winning African Innovation Startups out of the six hundred from DEMO Africa 2016; Strauss Energy, Solstice, Mediabox, Sortd, and ConnectMed, take part in the 5th annual edition of the Lions@frica Innovation Tour in California will compete alongside Silicon Valley technology startups at the 2017 Startup Grind Conference.

In a press statement, Aliesha Balde; Communications Manager at Lions@frica program, said, “We want these five startups to engage the Silicon Valley ecosystem on their own terms, but armed with the right tools and equipped with the necessary resources”.

All of the participating companies get multiple opportunities to pitch their products, services, and technologies to select groups of investors, industry leaders, diaspora groups and expert panels.

Twenty-Five (25) African startups have been reportedly said to have benefited from this trans-continental program that seeks to bridge knowledge gaps, and enable African technology startups to showcase their innovation on a global scale.[related-posts]

Lions@frica Innovation Tour organized by the Silicon Valley based African Technology Foundation focuses on knowledge sharing with leading Silicon Valley stakeholders, and networking opportunities that will yield deeper engagements between the African startups and their target partners in Silicon Valley.

The five African startups that are taking part at the Lions@frica Innovation Tour and Startup Grind Conference, three are South Africa startups; ConnectMed, MediaBox, and Sortd, while one is from Nigeria; Solstice and the other is Kenyan; Strauss Energy.
