Google has most recently removed Alemarah, an Android phones created by Islamist fundamentalist group the Taliban. The app was taken down for violation of Google’s App Policy which prohibits Hate Speech.
Alemarah App featured content like official videos and statements of the Afghan movement, all in Pashto language.
The App was discovered and reported by US -Based organisation, Site Intel Group which monitors jihadist activities, shortly before it was taken down. The group however maintains that the App became unavailable due to technical errors.
There’s been no official comment from Google regarding this particular issue but in a general statement they say, “Our policies are designed to provide a great experience for users and developers. That’s why we remove apps from Google Play that violate those policies.”
