Navio Now MTN Uganda’s ‘Smart Series’ Brand Ambassador

The Smart Series is MTN Uganda’s campaign that aims at promoting the adaptation of data usage with the use of a series of affordable smartphones.

Daniel Kigozi also known by his stage name as Navio is the latest MTN Smart Series brand ambassador who will be marketing one of the phones called the “MTN Smart Mini” according to the telecom giant.

Kigozi joins the bouquet of three other celebrated music artists; Lillian Mbabazi – brand ambassador for MTN Smart Mega, Pius Mayanja a.k.a Pallaso – brand ambassador for MTN Smart Buzz and Ronald Mayinja – brand ambassador for MTN Shyne, signed up by MTN to promote a series of MTN branded, affordable smartphones flagged under the “Smart Series” campaign.

Lillian, Pallaso and Mayinja who were signed to the campaign late last year, renewed their contracts sometime this year. However, Ziza Bafana who was part of the quartet last year didn’t renew his contract citing a busy schedule.

Navio said, “Ugandans are definitely going really hard on social media. In my view, if I wouldn’t say something to someone’s face, why would I say to them online?”

“Internet in general has changed Uganda. And even affordable smartphones like the MTN Smart Mini are making it easier for upgraded experience. Instead of charming visits to sort out business face to face, someone can knock out 20 meetings online in one day on phone. The introduction of Internet on smart phones gives freedom of movement,” he added.

According to Mapula Bodibe, MTN’s Chief Marketing Officer, Navio as a youth influencer represents the portfolio of the subscribers that MTN is targeting by ensuring that they join the Information Society through affordable and reliable Internet access.

“The Smart Series smartphones’ campaign offers affordable 2G and 3G connectivity. With this campaign we are removing the barrier to Internet entry for so many young people who have so far not been able to access the Internet because they can’t afford smartphones,” she said.

“While we want to recruit new customers to the Internet, through the Smart Series MTN increases access to affordable 3G devices and penetrate previously untapped segments that haven’t tried data due to the cost of the device,” she added.[related-posts]

With the ‘Smart Series’ campaign, MTN not only is bringing the internet to some communities for the first time, but to also enables upgrades from older technologies like 2G to faster and wider 3G Internet connectivity to enable a better customer experience.

According to officials, MTN as the leading telecom giant in Uganda, it aims to continue driving growth and connectivity across Uganda, leveraging its extensive investment over the past four years as well as to increase access to smartphones, thereby maintaining its leadership position in the provision of Internet services.
