Mortal Kombat XL Announced for PS4 and Xbox One, PC Ignored

NetherRealm, the studio behind the Mortal Kombat series announced Mortal Kombat XL. It’s an updated version of last year’s solid fighting game containing all of its downloadable content such as new characters, movesets, skins and the like.

However the game’s announcement trailer mentioned that it would the PS4 and Xbox One only. There was no mention of the game on Windows PC. It seemed odd considering that Mortal Kombat X made it to the platform the same time it did on consoles last year.

A studio representative took to popular Mortal Kombat forum, TestYourMight.com to confirm that the Mortal Kombat XL would not be making it to Windows PC.

“Mortal Kombat XL and Kombat Pack 2 will available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One only,” said NetherRealm’s Community Specialist Tyler Landsdown.

In the same discussion, fans realised that it sold nearly half a million units on Steam. The data was discovered on Steam Spy, a third-party service that tracks sales on Steam. It’s known for its fairly accurate sales estimates. Around 500,000 units sold is not too bad considering how poorly it was received at launch, forcing users to download most of the game even if they did buy it on disc.[related-posts]

Nonetheless, the lack of support for Mortal Kombat XL on PC should come as no surprise. The game’s publisher is Warner Bros. It was also responsible for Batman: Arkham Knight, a title that received its fair share of notoriety for a shoddy PC port.

While we’re yet to get information on how much Mortal Kombat XL would be priced at, it will be available from March 1.
