Vodafone customer details stolen by hackers

Personal and financial details of 1827 Vodafone UK customers have been stolen by hackers, with the hackers  already using some of the stolen information for fraudulent activity.

The hack was carried out on Wednesday night with the hackers using email addresses and passwords acquired from an unknown source to gain access to names, mobile telephone numbers, bank sort codes and the last 4 digits of bank accounts.

Vodafone says its systems were not compromised or breached and its security protocols were fundamentally effective and no credit or debit card numbers or details were obtained.

The customers’ accounts that were accessed have been blocked and affected customers are being contacted directly to assist them with changing their account details.
