Facebook to shut down access to hashtags in its API

Later this month, Facebook will reportedly be closing off access to its hashtags API.

The information was discovered by Tint, an audience management service which noted in an email to its users that the social network has scheduled deprecation of the API endpoint that allows it to access hashtag data on April 30.

Tint revealed that the API in question began returning errors yesterday and that Facebook has confirmed it is no longer supporting the API used for hashtags.

That means services which plug into the social network will not be able to access hashtag data and statistics, and most likely the social network is planning to offer hashtag data management tools of its own.

Facebook has not released any official communication concerning the news.

We will keep you updated on any new developments.
