Airtel Rwanda’s 4G LTE service switched on

Bharti-AirtelToday, Airtel Rwanda has announced the commercial introduction of its Long Term Evolution (LTE) services, which are offered over ORN Rwanda’s open-access 4G infrastructure.

The news were revealed by Airtel Rwanda’s financial director Tano Oware was cited as saying:

‘Our customers can now enjoy extremely fast download speeds and we look forward to seeing how this new platform, on top of our high speed 3.75G internet service, will impact their daily lives and business. The business community, SMEs and corporate companies are in for a treat,’ he said.

Airtel has revealed that  it already offers a selection of LTE-enabled devices, including USB modems, wireless routers and customer premises equipment (CPE), which can be bundled with monthly plans with a data allowance of between 5GB and 200GB; the introductory 5GB plan will cost RWF20,000 (USD29.07) per month.

ORN – the joint venture between the Rwandan government and KT Corp – launched its open-access LTE network on 11 November.

ORN offers 4G connectivity to local mobile operators and internet service providers (ISPs) on a wholesale basis.
