Airtel customers in Kenya who are on the postpaid platform will receive a DSTV Drifta with three months free subscription following a partnership between the giant satellite provider and the operator.
The partnership will offer customers more relevant mobile solutions in the network and customers will be able to access up to 16 channels via their smartphones and tablets.
The Drifta is a mobile decoder that allows you to access DStv Mobile channels using a Wi-Fi enabled viewing device like laptops, PCs, tablets and smartphones.
In order to access channels on your smartphone one needs to launch the play store, search for the Drifta app and install it.
After installation, the application will launch automatically enabling the user to view channels available.
Airtel Managing Director Shivan Bhargava says the partnership is also relevant as the country goes through the digital migration phase in television broadcasting.
“We are delighted to enter into this revolutionary partnership with DStv Mobile. This goes hand-in-hand with Airtel’s continued commitment to provide relevant and affordable mobile solutions to all,” he said.
The General manager for mobile at DSTV Kenya Felix Kyengo adds that partnership is also crucial for customers who want to access television as they go through other activities regardless of where they are.
“This partnership is critical as we are introducing digital mobile decoder for Android devices with a micro USB connector to enable customers to watch television on the go,” Kyengo said.
When bought separately a Drifta cost in upwards of Kshs.2600 and has various channels with a variety of content including: News, Drama, Kids entertainment, movies, sports and music.
