West Africa’s first Tier III data centre has gone live in Lagos with 3,000 rack spaces, positioning itself as the “future” of “disaster recovery, data storage and cloud-based data centre services” on the continent.

Rack Centre, part of the Jagal Group, is claiming to be first to go live in the region and a leader in the market.

Steve Brookman, Rack Centre’s managing director, said: “There have been a number of announcements recently from companies saying that they will deliver data centre services in the future, but the difference here is that Rack Centre is now live and operating, and I would encourage companies to come and see the future in operation today.”

Once completed, the data centre is expected to cover more than 6,000sqm and is located at the centre of Ikeja on a 20,000sqm site.

The site is 23 metres above sea level and within a private estate with eight levels of physical security to ensure “uncompromised security”.

Brookman said: “Nigeria is the largest country in Africa, and Rack Centre’s revolutionary data centre will out Nigeria at the heart of the global growth in disaster recovery and applications development.”
