Airtel Warid Taking Mobile Money to Another Level

images (11)Today 31st May 2013, Airtel and Warid introduced new affordable tariffs for sending money across all networks, synchronizing Airtel Money and Warid Pesa offerings while enhancing the mobile money ecosystem to include accessing bank accounts for Equity and Standard Chartered Bank Customers as well as payment of street parking to Multiplex.

Speaking at the launch of the services at Airtel House, the MD Mr VG Somaserkhar stated “Airtel Money and Warid Pesa customers will be happy to know that we continue to lead in providing affordability and innovation and this merger is intended to be a celebration. Today we are witnessing a major step towards improving the mobile payment ecosystem. With Bank integration for example, a customer’s phone will not only hold their float but also access their bank account. The new tariff will make it convenient and affordable to send money across all net works which will fuel more transactions and lead to a huge boost to the economy”

The Standard Bank MD Mr Herman Kasekende and the Equity bank MD Mr Francis CG Mills who were both  present expressed their hope and support for the merger and appreciated what it has done towards the growth of the Telecom sector in Uganda. They expressed their optimism on how it will also lead to the growth of the banking sector by bringing the bank services closer to the people through mobile money and e banking.

Mr Eldard Kasiime, the MD of Multiplex also welcomed the innovations that Airtel and Warid Uganda are bringing to the telecom sector especially now that his company  features prominently on either mobile money menu.

“Only those that are willful defaulters will now be clamped” he added.

The mobile money vendors’  security has been though of since the need to carry large sums of money has been scrapped. All they  need is to have an account in either bank.

The mobile money transactions will cost 400, 900 and 2000 for 5000, 100,000 and 5,000,000 across all net works. If the money does not reach the recipient for any reason, it will be redirected to the sender’s phone after 10 days.

To pay for parking, dial *100# or *144# for Airtel or Warid subscribers and follow the prompts.
